Where Will You See American Idol on Tour this Summer?

I am really looking forward to the tour this year. I just bought my tickets to the show at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA on July 7, 2009. This is the first year that I've ever bought tickets to the show, although I've considered it 2 or 3 other years. This year there are so many good, entertaining performers that I couldn't resist buying tickets. My personal favorites are Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, and Megan Joy, and close behind them are Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, and Alexis Grace if they do the right thing and add her back to the tour. They really should because their very flawed voting system this year had a distinct Anti-Female bias to it because it rewards the IDOLS of the fastest, most tireless, obsessed speed-dialers in America, who largely consist of very young females (Tweens & Teens) who vote for their favorite Boy. It's something that they need to correct by limiting the number of votes per phone to somewhere between 1 and 20 per week. That would level the playing field. If they don't do that, this will only get worse until they start losing the rest of their demographics and only young girls are watching anymore. That will be the Death of Idol. It may have already started, but it's not too late to save the show. As "American Idol" the show MUST be inherently fair to all contestants or it won't continue to capture the interest and imagination of the viewing public. Right now the tour only has 3 female singers along with 7 guys. I don't believe that the tour has ever had less than 5 females - they may have had 4 one year. This tour would really benefit from adding Alexis Grace to it. It would be a livelier, more fun, and SEXIER show, especially for the guys, but I think for everyone. Everyone knows Alexis can sing. A lot of people picked her to be in the finals with Adam and Danny before the cuts. Anyway, please sound off here and let us know where you will be seeing the tour! 15 out of 17 found this valuable. Maybe I will consider going this year if they add Alexis. If not my place would be Atlanta. I haven't even looked at the tour dates yet. The only year I ever considered going was when Carrie won. That girl can sing. I would enjoy seeing Adam and Allison in action. I really like Megan Joy too. She just needs to find the right songs to frame her voice. Kris, Matt and Michael have been my favorites. I think Michael has much more to give then we have seen. Danny has passion so over all it is a pretty good group. I sure hope they let Scott play his piano. There is so much talent to work with I sure would love to be on the support team. I have so many idea's they could do. Piano duals, Barbershop quartet, This could be the best tour ever with the right people helping. This is the first year they actually danced. They are going to have a blast together. It is a shame there are not more ladies. I am so into balance and that is the one thing about this year that feels OFF. 11 out of 11 found this valuable. Do you? |

Thanks for contributing HeartStar7. I almost added Matt Giraud in my second group of favorites and I should have because I liked a lot of his stuff as much as or better than Danny's and Kris'. I think that Lil will have sorted things out by the tour and be back to singing some great numbers. I wonder how many they each get to sing or if it varies according to where they placed? Obviously, there will be at least one or two group numbers, if not more. I'd like to hear from some people who have been to the shows before to get an idea of the format and how long the shows usually last. If they wanted to do it, they could be REALLY long with all the performers they have. I hope they do a lot of duets, too. Those were really nice. David ZenDoc

Now I'm looking forward to the tour even more. Alexis Grace was in the audience tonight for the results show. Did you see her? Would she be there if they weren't considering adding her to the tour? I'm not sure but I don't think so. They show her a lot on the commercials. The Idol tour only has 3 females right now, so they really need Alexis for better balance. And after hearing "Heartless" this week - the best song of Tuesday's performance show, I'm now a bigger fan of Kris and really looking forward to hearing him perform along with my other faves.

I understand that they've added new dates and new locations to the AI8 Tour. I haven't even looked at the whole tour schedule yet to see where all they are going. I was primarily concerned with the 2 that are close to me - Tacoma, WA - in my "backyard" and Portland - just down the road about 2-and-a-half hours away. I'm wondering what's the farthest anyone is going to travel to see the Top 10 on tour? NJMaple, thanks for the compliment. I hope that more people will talk about whether or not they are going to see the tour. I was wondering something unrelated that I'm not sure about. Does anyone know what placement in the competition prevents the contestants from re-entering the competition in a later year? Is it only the Top 10 who go on tour that are prohibited from re-entering the AI competition in a later year? Or is it the Top 12 (13) or the Top 24, Top 36, or even anyone who gets to Hollywood? I'm pretty certain that the latter is NOT the case. Does anyone know for sure?

I would like to know from someone who has been to an American Idol Tour Concert before about how long the concert lasts and how many songs each contestant sings. Does THE American Idol sing more than the others or do the Top 3 or Top 5 sing more songs than the other performers or do they all sing the same number of songs (somehow I doubt that)? Are most of the songs solos or do they sing a lot of duets and group songs on tour. I'm hoping for a 3-hour concert but it probably isn't that long. I hope that some of the posters here have seen an Idol concert before so I (and other Idol concert newbies) can have a more realistic idea of what the concert's like. Also is there much opportunity to take pictures with any of the Idols and/or get autographs? I'm more pumped up than ever about seeing the AI8 Tour concert after watching that GREAT American Idol Finale show. It was incredible. Of course, I know we won't be seeing Queen or KISS or Carlos Santana or Lionel Ritchie or even Keith Urban, etc, but it was just great to see all 13 of the Finalists again - and everyone sounded really good. I loved seeing Megan Joy again and Alexis Grace, and I am still hoping that the Producers of the American Idol Concert Tour decide to add Alexis to the tour because we didn't really get to see her talent on full display and she is the ONE person that the Judges really should have used their SAVE on. Please contribute to this Idol Concert Tour thread. Thank you. 10 out of 10 found this valuable. Do you? |

I will be going to the Little Rock, Arkansas show with my 17 year old daughter. My favorite idols are Kris and Adam. My daughter's favorite was Kris and Allyson. She liked Adam too though. We liked Danny too, but we wanted him to go home before Allyson. I predicted Adam to win American Idol from the very beginning. 75% of my votes went to Kris and 25% went to Adam up until it was time for KRIS to come home. We live in the same town as Kris and supported him, so our votes went straight to Kris so he could have his hometown reunion. Over 20, 000 people showed up to greet Kris. It was an amazing experience to be a part of his homecoming. AI was also there in Conway for the finale results. It was so intense as the results were being read. Fireworks were going off in Downtown Conway and people were honking their horns for KRIS. It was crazy, exciting, and lots of fun! We are so proud of his accomplishments on American Idol. I wish the best for Kris and Adam. They both made AI Season 8 the most exciting season ever! My other favorites from past idol seasons were Carrie Underwood, Daughtry, Ace Young, and Kelly Clarkson. Wasn't crazy over Season 3 at all. Thought Clay should have won over Rueben in Season 2, but really didn't care either way. Season 5 was such a disappointment when Taylor won and America sent Daughtry home in 4th place. I was happy with the results from the rest of the seasons!

Thank you SnowPup for your comments. I am guessing from your response that you've never been to an American Idol Concert before either. I agree with most of your picks even from past years. Season 5 was the biggest disaster with Taylor being the most undeserving Idol ever. Please read my comments under the thread: "Who Will Win: Kris or Adam"? I have 4 coments in a row that address the voting issue. I'd appreciate getting your feedback on it. To break down my favorites this year and put them in order, I would say it would be: 1) ADAM 2) ALLISON 3) MEGAN JOY 4) KRIS ALLEN 5) DANNY GOKEY 6) ALEXIS GRACE 7) MATT GIRAUD and I like some of the others, too. It's been a really good year. I'm really looking forward to the concert coming up for me on July 7!

We're less than 6 weeks away from the start of the American Idol 2009 concert tour and exactly 6 weeks today from the concert that I will be attending in Tacoma, WA. Are you going to see them perform live or not? Why or why not? I know our local radio and TV stations are giving away tickets and I'm thinking about entering some contests to see if I can win better seats than I bought. My tickets are right in the middle but in the 11th row out of 28 rows of the section that's farthest from the stage. Of course, they have giant screens to see them on, too, and I'll take binoculars just in case. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Maybe I'm too old for all this, but I don't think so, because I still like to Rock and I'm really looking forward to the Concert - it's only 5 weeks and 1 day away for me. I know Adam and Allison will rock the house and Kris just kept getting better and better & I love Megan Joy - those 4 would be my favorites and I'm really looking forward to seeing them all! 3 out of 3 found this valuable. I'm hoping to purchase tickets soon in Providence, RI. I, too, have never purchased tickets in the past even though I thought about it last year. I also totally agree with you about the voting system. It shouldn't matter whether it's 10 or 10,000 votes per household. Limiting it would definitely make for a better chance of the better singers making it further.

I wanted to see Danny sing at least twice, so I have tickets to AAC in Dallas and Alltel in Little Rock which are the two closest places . Depending on the shows, I could add another one later.

"Well, I am glad to know I am not the only "old" one out here...we all have our different favorites with mine being Danny but I am 52 myself. So maybe I won't stand out so much in the concerts like I was afraid."Hi man5ell, I think there are a lot of older American Idol fans at least in their 40's and 50's and even 60's, BUT I don't know how many of the older fans will be going to the concerts. I hope that there's quite a few. I will be going to the Tacoma Dome show with another 59 yo, but, other than that, who knows? I'm not concerned about it, because I'm going to have fun and enjoy the show. But I would be willing to bet that I'll see people who are older than I am. Are you going with anyone or by yourself? I really like Danny, too, and miss him, as well as my "core" favorites: Adam, Allison, and Megan Joy, and more recently, Kris. After them it's Danny, Matt, and Alexis Grace (who I hope that they bring on the tour as a back-up and fill-in for anyone who gets sick or laryngitis - I hope - I hope!) As for the other 4, I didn't connect with them as well, but they're all decent singers. I know Lil has talent, but she kept choosing the wrong songs week after week, so she was hard to appreciate; I enjoyed Scott and his keyboard playing and he's a decent singer, so I'll enjoy hearing him again. I know there's lots of Anoop fans out there, but I didn't think he was that talented and only liked a couple of his songs very much. Actually, I think that I really resented him, because the judges couldn't make a decision as to who the 12th person should be, so they let Anoop in, too, giving them a Top 13, and I really didn't think he belonged. It was a very imbalanced Finals group with 8 males and only 5 females, and then only 3 of the females made the Top 10. If Anoop was NOT added to the group, then Alexis Grace would have been in the Top 10 and on tour. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
